Former President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed deep sorrow over the death of his successor, Muhammadu Buhari, describing it as a significant national loss.

In a personally signed statement on Sunday, Jonathan honoured the late president as a disciplined officer, selfless leader, and elder statesman who gave his utmost in service to Nigeria.

“It is with a heavy heart and a profound sense of national loss that I received the news of the passing of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who died at the age of 82,” Jonathan stated.

He described Buhari as a courageous leader, a disciplined officer, and a dedicated public servant who contributed meaningfully to Nigeria’s peace and progress.

Jonathan noted that Buhari would be remembered for his courage, integrity, and strong sense of duty.

“In his passing, Nigeria has lost one of its foremost leaders, and I have lost a respected colleague and elder. His legacy will endure in the hearts of all who cherish sacrifice, integrity, perseverance, and commitment to national values,” he added.

He offered condolences on behalf of his family and the Goodluck Jonathan Foundation to the late president’s family, the people of Katsina State, and the entire nation.

“May Allah forgive his shortcomings, accept his good deeds, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus,” he prayed.
