Building Collapse in Delta claims one life, others wounded

75

One person has died and several others have been injured following the collapse of a section of a nine-storey building under construction in Asaba, the capital of Delta State, on Saturday.

Eyewitnesses reported that the victim was operating a cement mixer when the walls on the ninth floor gave way, causing an immediate fatality.

Some residents expressed concerns about the quality of the construction work and questioned whether the project had the necessary approvals before it began.

In response, the Delta State Government has shut down the construction site and initiated an investigation into the cause of the collapse. Commissioner of Urban Renewal, Michael Anoka, visited the scene to evaluate the situation.

This incident adds to the ongoing issue of building collapses in Nigeria. Earlier in the week, a similar incident in Lagos State resulted in the deaths of around five people.

Some weeks back, scores of students were killed when a section of a school building collapsed in Plateau State.

Experts have blamed the poor quality of materials, unprofessionalism, and a host of other reasons as factors triggering building the incessant level of building collapse in Nigeria.
