Burial arrangements for Adesiyan Adegboye, the teacher killed during last Friday’s coordinated attack on three schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, commenced on Friday at Ayegun Baptist Church, Ogbomoso.

Adegboye, aged 49, was shot dead when armed bandits invaded Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School, Esiele.

The deceased teacher is scheduled to be buried later on Friday at his residence in the Owolake area of Ogbomoso.

Reports indicated that the attackers stormed the schools around 9:30am, abducting several teachers and students in an operation that caused panic across the affected communities.

Following the incident, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, visited the area on Saturday and directed the deployment of more detectives from the Force Headquarters in Abuja to assist with ongoing rescue operations.

According to the police, the additional deployment was intended to ensure the safe return of the abducted teachers and pupils.

Earlier, Governor Seyi Makinde revealed that seven students were abducted from Community Secondary School, while 18 pupils and seven teachers were kidnapped from First Baptist Primary and Nursery School.

Makinde also confirmed that one person lost his life during the attack.

The incident created widespread fear in Ogbomoso and neighbouring communities, leading many parents to withdraw their children from schools over fears of further attacks.

Some schools temporarily shut down after rumours spread that bandits had entered Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, an allegation later denied by the institution’s management.
