Former Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Senator Emmanuel Bwacha, has been officially affirmed as the Peoples Democratic Party’s governorship candidate for the 2027 election in Taraba State.
The affirmation exercise was conducted on Monday at the Shield Hotel in Jalingo and was overseen by members of the party’s State Working Committee alongside representatives of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Explaining the basis for the process, the PDP State Legal Adviser, Muhammad Danlami, said the party acted in line with both its internal regulations and relevant provisions of the Electoral Act.
He said, “In accordance with Section 87(3) of the Electoral Act, where a political party presents a sole aspirant for any office, the party may adopt a consensus or affirmation procedure, subject to the guidelines of the party.”
Following his confirmation as the party’s standard-bearer, Bwacha outlined his vision for the state, stressing the need for unity, effective leadership, and policies that address existing governance challenges.
He said his administration would prioritise critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, agriculture, and youth development while ensuring that all residents have equal opportunities and representation in government.
The former senator also urged voters to reject inducement-driven politics, warning that some politicians were already positioning themselves to influence the electoral process through vote buying.
He encouraged the electorate to remain steadfast and make decisions based on the future development of Taraba rather than short-term financial gains.
Bwacha further described his return to the PDP as a deliberate effort to strengthen cohesion within the party. He expressed optimism that the time available before the 2027 election would enable adequate planning, wider consultations, and better preparation to avoid the setbacks experienced during previous electoral contests.
