A Catholic priest is alleged to have shot and killed a boy in Imo State.

The incident reportedly took place at St. Columbus Catholic Church in the Amaimo community, Ikeduru Local Government Area.

While the victim’s identity has not been confirmed, it is claimed the boy was shot after allegedly throwing knockouts into the church.

According to sources, the incident occurred during the New Year Mass on January 1, 2025, in Amaimo.

The event has caused shock and chaos in the community, with many condemning the priest’s actions and calling for a thorough investigation and the arrest of the suspect.

Reports indicate that the priest armed himself with a firearm and shot the boy, who was said to have thrown the knockouts onto the church premises.

The Imo State Police Command confirmed the incident on Thursday.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Henry Okoye, stated that a detailed investigation has been launched to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
