The Republic of Chad has announced plans to scrap visa requirements for all African nationals, with the new policy set to take effect on January 1, 2027.
Chadian President Mahamat Idriss Déby said the decision is aimed at promoting greater unity among African countries.
He explained that the policy would help make the free movement of people and goods across the continent a more practical reality.
With the move, Chad will become the eighth African country to adopt a blanket visa-free entry policy for citizens from other African nations.
Other countries that have introduced similar open-border policies include Benin Republic, The Gambia, Rwanda, Seychelles, Ghana, Kenya and Togo.
In May, Togo also announced that Africans holding valid passports could enter the country without visas.
The latest decision by Chad is expected to further support regional integration and ease movement between African countries.
