Chelsea interested in re-signing Guehi from Crystal Palace
Chelsea are reportedly exploring the possibility of re-signing Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi.
The 24-year-old is said to be on Chelsea’s shortlist of defensive targets, despite being sold to Palace in 2021 for £18 million—prior to the club’s acquisition by current owners Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
While Crystal Palace has not yet received an official approach from Chelsea, Guehi’s representatives are aware of the interest from his former club.
The defender has 18 months remaining on the five-year contract he signed upon joining Palace.
Chelsea’s interest underscores their broader pursuit of a central defender, either during the January or summer transfer window.
The need has been intensified by Wesley Fofana’s significant hamstring injury, which manager Enzo Maresca suggests could sideline him for the rest of the season.
However, sources close to Fofana remain optimistic, expecting a much shorter recovery period. Meanwhile, Benoit Badiashile is unavailable until at least February.
Marc Guehi, who made just two senior appearances for Chelsea in the EFL Cup in 2019, later spent a season and a half on loan at Swansea in the Championship before joining Crystal Palace. Since then, he has earned 22 caps for England.
Palace rejected four bids from Newcastle for Guehi during the summer, the highest of which was valued at £65 million.
Additionally, reports suggest Chelsea might recall Trevoh Chalobah from his loan at Palace, while Argentinian defender Aaron Anselmino has already returned from Boca Juniors.
