Chief Ajadi Badmus: ‘He lived for, defended our interests till death,’ tributes pour in for late Asiwaju of Osogboland

The death has been announced of Asiwaju of Osogboland, Chief Ajadi Badmus. NewsClick Nigeria gathered that the late Asiwaju breath his last early this morning (Sunday) at the age of 83 years.

The late Ajadi was from the Adekilekun dynasty in Isale-Osun, Osogbo, the Osun State capital.

He was the elder brother to the foremost business magnate, Chairman of TUNS FARM and Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Alh Khamis Olatunde Badmus.

His last public outing with his younger brother was at the wedding ceremony of the son of the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, Larooye II at Abeokuta on Saturday 5th October, 2024.

He was buried on Sunday evening according to Islamic rites.

Former Osun State Amotekun Commander, Comrade Amitolu Shittu were among early callers at the late Asiwaju’s younger’s brother house to express condolence.

Tributes pour in 

Meanwhile, tributes have started pouring in torrents for the late elder statesman described by many who shared their glowing thoughts with NewsClick Nigeria as integrity personified.

President of the Association of Communication and Marketing Professionals in Banks (ACAMB), Rasheed Bolarinwa who happened to be a student under the principalship of the late Ajadi in the 80s described him as ‘Osogbo’s finest statesman and defender of repute’

‘He was Osogbo’s finest statesman and defender of repute. A man of immense Courage with high dose of integrity. He lived for Osogbo’s growth and development and defended the interest of the town to the end. He’d be sorely missed. May Allah make him a candidate of Aljanah Firdaus, Amin.

He was my Principal at my Alma mata, Osogbo Grammar School in the early 80s. A disciplinarian par excellence who looked out for the interest of his students – in and out of school.

It was great reunion as my colleagues and I kept in touch with him and saw him last at our secondary school while he hosted us in his GRA home country in Osogbo when we celebrated 40 years of our Alma mata few years ago,’ Bolarinwa said in a special tribute.

A senior lecturer at Fountain University, Osogbo, Rasheed Adebiyi said the late Asiwaju played a prominent role in ensuring the university was sited in the town.

‘It is a very big loss to Osogbo and beyond. We have lost a rare gem. He played a very prominent role in ensuring all Osogbo interests were protected during his life time.

He was also part of those who ensured Fountain University had a place in the town. He was a father to all. He was an embodiment of history of the town. May Allah accept his return.’

Prince Hameed Oyegbade of Sogbo Ruling House, Gbaemu Royal Family Osogbo had this to say about Pa Ajadi’s passing:  ‘The death of Baba Ajadi Badmus has created a vacuum in Osogbo, given his role in our hometown during his lifetime. He would surely missed. We pray Almighty Allah to grant him aljanat fridaos. Aamin.’
