A 47-year-old Chinese national, Luo Mao, died after collapsing while on duty at a ceramics company in Ajaokuta, Kogi State.

State Police Public Relations Officer, William Aya, confirmed the incident on Thursday, stating it occurred on Friday, August 2.

According to Aya, the company’s Human Resource Manager reported to the Ajaokuta Area Command that Mao, a Chinese supervisor, suddenly slumped at work and was rushed to hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead. His remains were later deposited in the morgue.

Security expert Makama Zagazola, who posted details on X, said Mao collapsed at the company’s press department. He was first taken to Covenant Hospital in Ajaokuta, then referred to the Federal Medical Centre in Lokoja. However, due to an ongoing strike at the FMC, he was moved to Shifaah Hospital in Lokoja, where he was confirmed dead at about 9:30 p.m. on August 5.

Zagazola added that Mao’s body is now at the Kogi State Specialist Hospital Mortuary for autopsy. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death, though no foul play is currently suspected.

In April  armed men killed Chinese expatriates and a police officer in an ambush in Abia State, although four other Chinese nationals and two policemen were rescued.
