The cholera outbreak in Nigeria has claimed at least 103 lives, with over 3,000 suspected cases reported.
Jide Idris, the Director General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), confirmed the figures during a news briefing in Abuja on Tuesday.
He noted that the epidemic has already been reported in 187 local government units throughout 34 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
According to the NCDC director, the top six states accounting for around 83 percent of infections are Lagos, Bayelsa, Abia, Ebonyi, Katsina, and Zamfara.
He blamed the diseases on the constant flooding in various states across the country, the use of tainted food and water, and open defecation.
Idris advised Nigerians to maintain proper hygiene and remain vigilant against the rise of epidemiological diseases during the rainy season.
