CNA confirms attack on staff by DSS operatives, appeals for calm

The Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA) Sani Magaji Tambuwal has confirmed brutalisation of two senior staff members by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) within the complex.

Tambawal, in a statement by the Secretary, Human Resources and Staff Development, Birma Shuaibu Maina, however appealed to staff to be “calm, peaceful and law abiding” saying the situation was “under control.”

The statement titled: “Appeal for calm” reads: “The top management of the National Assembly is aware of the unfortunate incident that happened on Friday, 17th May, 2024, which involved Dr. John Nnnaji – Clerk, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Upstream), Comrade M. C. Odo and some DSS Personnel at the National Assembly Complex.

“The Clerk to the National Assembly and top management team visited Comrade Odo at the National Assembly Clinic and immediately called for an emergency meeting between the Management, Security Personnel and PASAN (Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria) officials during which the unfortunate incident was deliberated upon and unanimously resolved as follows:

“That DSS and other security operatives should work in harmony with the Sergeant-At-Arms; all security operatives within the National Assembly Complex should be civil in the discharge of their duties; and all members of Staff should always display their I. D. cards for easy identification.

“The CNA and the top management hereby appeal to staff to be calm, peaceful and law abiding as the situation is under control.”
