Former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has declared that coalition leaders will fully support whoever emerges as the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate in the 2027 general election.
Amaechi, who served two terms as Governor of Rivers State, made this statement in Port Harcourt on Wednesday while addressing journalists.
He expressed confidence in the integrity of the party’s primary process, emphasising that it must be transparent, free, and fair.
“The moment anyone emerges from the primary, all of us will give our support; that’s the agreement,” he stated. “We insist on a free and fair, transparent primary.”
The former All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain also condemned the widespread hunger and economic hardship across Nigeria.
He urged all indigenes of oil-rich Rivers State to register with the ADC and help unseat the ruling APC in 2027.
“Every Rivers man who wants the best for our state and country should register with the new party and work to remove the current government and end the hunger affecting everyone,” Amaechi said.
The ADC has become the rallying platform for a new opposition coalition seeking to challenge President Bola Tinubu’s re-election under the APC.
Prominent figures in the coalition include former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi — both of whom contested in the last presidential election.
Other key members include former Senate President David Mark, who now serves as the coalition’s interim chairman, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai.
At the coalition’s launch on July 2, David Mark described the movement as an effort to safeguard Nigeria’s democracy and prevent the emergence of a one-party state.
