Coalition: You can’t serve two masters, Bode George tells Atiku, PDP members

Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bode George, has criticised certain PDP leaders who are actively participating in the emerging opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

He specifically cautioned former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other PDP members who have not officially resigned from the party, yet are involved in the ADC coalition, saying, “You cannot serve two masters.”

“You can’t serve two masters, as stated in the Holy Book. You either serve A or you serve B. But to say you are in A and B is a fallacy,” George said on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Friday.

He accused ADC Chairman David Mark and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar of playing key roles in the crisis that destabilised the PDP.

According to George, the ADC-led coalition cannot match the strength and structure of the PDP as a formidable opposition, arguing that the alliance lacks both strategic direction and a clear concept.

The PDP chieftain said, “It is nothing but existential imbecility. Or sometimes what is called existential docility. What is it that they are all going there?

“This is your father’s house. The house made you, brought you to the limelight. You gain every laurel and recognition from this same house. And because there is a little crisis, is leaving the cultural thing to do? No, you sit in there.

“If you have a house that is leaking, do you run out? No, you are the landlord.

“Do they have a concept? What is the strategy they have? That is a classless strategy.”

George said some of the members of the ADC Coalition were part of those who instigated the crisis within the PDP.

“When we had the last convention, General Buhari had just finished eight years. Then Atiku Abubakar wanted to compete (but) we said no; a northern had just finished eight years. We had (Peter) Obi in the South. This was the beginning of the crisis.

“David Mark was the chairman of that convention, and Iyorchia Ayu was the chairman of the party. Of course, you cannot do things like that and get away with it. I warned against it at that point,” he said.

On Wednesday, opposition leaders and members of a newly formed coalition convened in Abuja and officially adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as their political platform to challenge President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.

They appointed former Senate President David Mark and former Osun State governor Rauf Aregbesola as interim National Chairman and Secretary of the party, respectively.

Prominent figures present at the event included former PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s Peter Obi, ex-Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Rivers governor Rotimi Amaechi, Dino Melaye, Solomon Dalong, Dele Momodu, Gabriel Suswam, Senator Ireti Kingibe, Emeka Ihedioha, and former Chief of Air Staff, Sadique Abubakar.
