A Nigerian Correctional Service vehicle crashed in the Emir’s Market (Oja-Oba) in Kwara State’s Ilorin West Local Government Area.

The Thursday incident injured seven people.

The tragedy happened early in the morning while the van was transporting some suspects to courts at high speeds. It then struck the persons parked by the wayside, who were largely commercial motorbike riders.

They were taken to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for medical attention.

While the initial fear was the death of four people, this was denied by the ‘okada’ riders association and authorities of the Ilorin Correctional Service.

Angered by the incident, a mob attacked and vandalised the bus.

The pandemonium led to the deployment of security men drawn from the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) who condoned off the areas around the Palace of the Emir of Ilorin and blocked the roads leading to Oja Oba, Isale Oja, Idi Ape and Ago Markets.
