Corrupt practices: Panel approves 11 LASTMA officers for dismissal, demotion, others

Officers from the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) have presented 12 individuals before the Disciplinary Panel. They face charges related to corrupt practices and absenteeism, in accordance with the existing rules outlined by the Lagos State Civil Service Rules and Regulations.

The Acting General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Olalekan Bakare Oki, revealed that a disciplinary panel, consisting of three Permanent Secretaries, convened on Thursday to address allegations of corrupt practices against 12 officers. The panel has forwarded its recommendations to the State Civil Service Commission for approval in accordance with the Public Service Rules.

The recommendations include various penalties such as dismissal, reduction in rank, and termination from the State Public Service.

Confirming his role in the disciplinary panel, the Acting General Manager stated that out of the 12 officers, 11 were found guilty of the charges, while one officer was exonerated according to the panel’s report.

Bakare Oki, who issued stern warnings to all Comptrollers, Commanders, and Zebras of the Agency, emphasized that strict and severe penalties will continue to be imposed on corrupt officers in his ongoing efforts to cleanse the agency of a few individuals tarnishing its reputation.

“We hereby call on residents especially, the motoring public to support the Agency in the ongoing restructuring by promptly reporting any errant Officers via any of the Agency’s complaints hotlines (08100565860, 08129928503, 08129928515 & 08129928597) with proof of evidence”

He cautioned all agency officers to perform their duties impartially and in adherence to the established laws governing the authority. Any operative caught engaging in actions that bring disrepute to the agency or the government will face consequences.

While expressing appreciation for the dedication, diligence, and professionalism of LASTMA officials, Bakare Oki issued a warning to the motoring public against attempting to influence traffic personnel with bribes. He emphasized that both the giver and the receiver of bribes are liable to prosecution, as the law condemns such practices.
