The Lagos High Court in Ikeja has adjourned to 15 April 2025 the alleged defamation case brought by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Femi Falana, and his son Folarin, popularly known as Falz, against social media influencer Martins Otse, also known as Verydarkman (VDM).

Justice Matthias Dawodu granted the adjournment at the request of Verydarkman after the court received a letter from his legal representatives, the law firm of Deji Adeyanju and Partners.

In the letter, dated 18 February 2025, counsel Nafiu Alagbe cited the absence of lead defence counsel Marvin Omorogbe, who was reportedly unavailable due to a “domestic emergency”.

While Verydarkman was absent from court, Falana was present.

Falana’s counsel, Omotayo Olatunbosun, described the request as a “time-wasting tactic” by the defence. However, following the court’s prompting, he proceeded with his counter-affidavit challenging the preliminary objection raised by Verydarkman against the defamation suit.

Consequently, Justice Dawodu adjourned the case to 15 April 2025 for a hearing.

Meanwhile, it has emerged that after the ex parte application for pre-emptive remedy was granted by Justice Dawodu, the Falanas have filed a substantive suit, now assigned to Justice Fimisola Azeez, also of the Lagos High Court, Ikeja.
