The Lagos State Environmental Special Offences Court in Ikoyi on Tuesday, issued a verdict, sentencing 26 individuals to community service. They were found guilty of unlawfully disposing of waste in various locations across the state.

Magistrate Mcdavies Amore, presiding over the court, granted the convicted individuals the choice of either paying a fine of N30,000 or performing community service.

The statement explained that the lawbreakers were apprehended over the span of Monday and Tuesday by a joint effort of the Lagos Waste Management Authority’s enforcement team in partnership with the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps.

LAWMA’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, emphasized that the current collaborative enforcement effort between the agencies has been ramped up in alignment with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, which has a firm commitment to eradicating environmental disturbances.

“The era of recklessness and disdain for the environment is over. Anyone caught under whatever guise will be made to face the wrath of the law. The exercise is a continuous one,” the LAWMA CEO said.
