On Monday, Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed the Federal Government’s treasonable felony charges against Omoyele Sowore, the coordinator of the #RevolutionNow protest.

The Federal Government filed a notice of discontinuance with the court last week through the office of the Federation’s Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi.

The notice read, “By virtue of the power conferred on me under Section 174 (1) (c} of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended, Section 107 (1) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015 and all other powers enabling me in that behalf, I Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN intend to discontinue charge No: FHC/ABJ/CR/235/2019″.

Justice Nwite ruled on Monday that the court was required to dismiss the charge because the case was being heard for the first time before him.

He later dismissed the allegations.

The court ordered the Department for State Services (DSS) to restore three phones confiscated from Sowore, his passport, and the N10,000 collected from him, as well as a phone obtained from the second defendant.

Sowore and his co-defendant Olawale Bakare were brought before the Federal High Court in Abuja in 2019 after staging a “Revolution Now” protest gathering.
