The convener of the #RevolutionNow movement, Omoyele Sowore, has been granted bail set at ₦10 million, with one surety in like sum.
The surety must be a responsible individual with landed property of equivalent value.
The surety is required to submit the original property documents and a passport photograph to the court registrar.
While ruling on the bail application, the trial judge, Justice Musa Liman, ordered Sowore to surrender his international passport to the court registrar.
The judge further ruled that Sowore has 24 hours to meet the bail conditions; otherwise, he will be remanded in police custody until the conditions are fulfilled.
Sowore had attended a police summons on Monday, 27th January 2025, where he was questioned at the Force Criminal Investigation Department.
Although he was granted administrative bail, he refused the conditions and remained in custody.
The police subsequently filed a 16-count cybercrime charge against him.
In count three, the police allege that on 20th December 2024, Sowore used his X handle to call the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, “the illegal IG of the Nigeria Police Force.”
The police further claim that Sowore posted Egbetokun’s picture on his X handle with the caption: “Mediocrity, incompetence, corruption – a country run by characterless people cannot progress.”
Additionally, the police allege that Sowore wrote, “IGP Kayode Egbetokun will destroy the Nigeria Police if we don’t act now.”
Sowore pleaded not guilty to all 16 charges of alleged cybercrime.
