On Thursday, a hight court of the Federal Capital Territory issued a one-week deadline to the Department of State Security Service (DSS) to either bring charges against Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, and take him to court, or release him from detention.
Justice Hamza Muazu made this ruling during the delivery of a judgment in a human rights case brought against the DSS and others by Emefiele.
Justice Muazu stated that the DSS has the authority to fulfill its constitutional responsibilities, including making arrests, detaining individuals, and preventing internal crime.
However, he maintained that such duties must be carried out within the ambit of the law.
