Court jails ex-convict one year for motorcycle theft in Ekiti

An ex-convict named Wale Adegboro, 29, was given a year in prison by an Ekiti State Chief Magistrate Court in Ado Ekiti for stealing a motorcycle and some personal items.

Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the police prosecutor, said that the defendant committed the crime on November 20, 2022, at approximately 6:50 p.m., in the Rose Bud neighbourhood on Oke Ila Street in Ado-Ekiti.

The ex-convict “did steal a Bajaj motorcycle red color with its ignition key valued at N550,000,” according to Oriyomi.

According to the police prosecutor, the defendant also took money worth N10,000, an Itel phone for N15,000, shorts worth N3,000, a blouse worth N4,000, and a pair of clippers worth N10,000, all belonging to Opeyemi Egunjobi.

He said, “The complainant knew the defendant. The defendant had demanded some money from him to eat and the complainant took him to his house.

“The complainant went inside to take his bath, before he could know it, the convict had stolen his properties, and gone away.

“The offence committed is contrary to Section 295 and punishable under Section 302 (1)(A) of the Criminal Law Vol. 1, laws of Ekiti State of Nigeria, 2021”.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the offence as charged.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Bankole Oluwasanmi, in the judgment, said, “The court has been furnished with the facts of the case, hence, the defendant was convicted and sentenced to one year imprisonment”.
