The Court of Appeal in Ibadan has upheld the installation of Oba Afolabi Ghandi Olaoye as the Soun of Ogbomosoland, overturning a previous lower court decision that had annulled the kingmakers’ choice and his subsequent enthronement.
A three-member panel of justices, led by Justice Yargata Nimpar, examined the ten grounds of appeal in the case.
The initial ruling, delivered by Justice Adedokun on a petition filed by Prince Kabiru Laoye, had asserted that the proper procedures were not followed in selecting and installing Oba Olaoye. Justice Adedokun declared Oba Ghandi’s appointment illegal and called for a new selection process.
Dissatisfied with the High Court’s decision, the defendant appealed to the Court of Appeal, which ultimately resolved the disputes surrounding Oba Ghandi’s enthronement as Soun of Ogbomosoland.
