Justice Inyang Ekwo of the Federal High Court in Abuja has directed the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to release socialite and businesswoman Aisha Achimugu within 24 hours.

The judge also instructed that both parties return to court on May 2nd to report on the compliance with his directive.

Earlier, on Monday, Justice Ekwo had ordered Achimugu to present herself to the anti-graft agency regarding an ongoing investigation related to money laundering and other offences.

He further ruled that after her appearance at the EFCC office, the agency must bring her before the court on Wednesday, April 30, to provide an update.

It is recalled that Achimugu was arrested by EFCC operatives at around 5 a.m. on Tuesday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The EFCC is investigating her for alleged involvement in conspiracy, obtaining money under false pretences, money laundering, corruption, and possession of properties suspected to have been acquired unlawfully.

Although Achimugu had previously been arrested and interrogated by the EFCC, she was released on administrative bail.

However, the EFCC later accused her of jumping bail and declared her wanted.
