The Kano State Sharia Court has directed correctional authorities to provide special care and adequate medical attention to Yusuf Mahmud Rano, a man accused of cutting off his finger after allegedly being offered N80 million for it.
The court, sitting in Jogana, issued the directive as proceedings continued in the case involving Yusuf and four other defendants facing allegations of conspiracy and attempted sorcery. The court explained that judgment could not be delivered as earlier scheduled on Monday because government lawyers were expected to take part in the proceedings.
Presiding judge, Malam Kamalu Haruna, said the matter had been adjourned to Thursday, September 17, 2026, and ordered that the first four defendants remain in custody until the next hearing.
Haruna also directed the Kano State Correctional Service to ensure that Yusuf receives proper medical treatment and special attention throughout his time in custody.
The Kano State Police Command charged Abdurrahman Abbas Kwasamgwami Gezawa, Sha’aibu Yawale Daganawa Bunkure, Abubakar Iliyasu Zangon Dakata, Ishaq Isah Rano and Yusuf Mahmud Rano with the offences, saying the defendants had pleaded guilty at the previous sitting.
