Court remands 55-year-old pastor over alleged rape of minor in Ekiti

An Ekiti Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Ado Ekiti has ordered that one Rev. Dr. Ayinde Olukayode,55 year old to be remanded in the Correctional Centre in Ado Ekiti.

While making the pronouncement, Chief Magistrate Iyabo Ola-Olorun said the remand request granted will allow the prosecutor forward the duplicate case file to office of Director of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.

An officer of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Iyaniwura Oluwanifesimi announced his appearance before taken over by Ekiti State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice through one of his officers, Edabo Atane.

According to the charge, Rev. Ayinde was charged for offence reasonably suspected to be rape of a twelve year old girl, who alongside her parents are living together within Ado Ekiti Magisterial district sometime in August, 2020.

In a twist to the case, the parents of the girl denied the allegation against the cleric, describing their daughter as wayward and a liar, explaining that Rev. Ayinde is their benefactor in many ways including the girl.

The offence was committed contrary to section 357 of the Criminal Code Cap. C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The case was adjourned to July 27th, 2021 for mention.

Offence Of raping under age children by clerics and other related offences have become a recurring matter in Ekiti State over a period of time now.
