Court remands alleged fake PFIPC DG Adeyemi over forgery

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi Matthew, 38, who is accused of posing as the Director General of the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council (PFIPC), in Kuje prison.

Justice Mohammed Umar issued the order on Wednesday, directing that Adeniyi remain in custody pending the hearing and determination of his bail application.

The ruling followed Adeniyi’s plea of not guilty to an eight-count charge of conspiracy and forgery filed against him and two other suspects, identified as Femi, whose surname is unknown, and Anu, also of unknown surname. The two co-defendants are currently at large.

However, his defence counsel, Genesis Francis, asked the court to hear his client’s bail application on Wednesday.

Francis told the court that his client has a medical appointment on Friday for an unspecified ailment which, according to him, is contagious.

Responding, lead prosecution counsel, Rotimi Oyedepo, said the police have qualified medical personnel capable of attending to Adeyemi’s condition, adding that medical facilities are also available at the correctional centre.

The judge, however, declined to hear the bail application on Wednesday, citing the volume of matters before the court.

Justice Umar subsequently ordered that Adeyemi remain in custody and adjourned the case until October 12 for hearing of the bail application and the substantive suit.
