Court remands Osinachi’s husband in prison, orders expedited hearing

Peter Nwachukwu, husband of the late gospel singer Osinachi, has been remanded at Kuje Correctional Facility by the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja’s Wuse neighbourhood.

The Attorney General of the Federation has filed a homicide-related lawsuit against Mr. Nwachukwu, who will be imprisoned pending the hearing and decision of the case.

Justice Njideka Nwosu-Iheme, the presiding judge, issued the order on Friday after he pleaded not guilty to 23 charges including domestic violence and murder.

She ordered that the suspect be incarcerated and adjourned the trial to June 16 and June 17.

On April 8, the gospel singer passed away, and many of her colleagues accused her husband of subjecting her to domestic violence, which contributed to her passing.

Following the occurrence, the Nigerian Police arrested Nwachukwu, who has been detained ever since.

The Federal Government asserts he violated Sections 104 and 379 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act of 2015, Section 221 of the Penal Code, and the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Act of 2015 (VAPP).
