Court remands Yoruba Nation agitators for invading Ibadan Radio Nigeria

A Magistrate’s Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, has ordered the remand of seven Yoruba Nation agitators who had invaded Radio Nigeria’s Amuludun FM station, at the Abolongo correctional facility in Oyo town.

They will remain in custody until Wednesday, September 13, 2023.

On May 28, the agitators took control of the broadcast of Amuludun FM 99.1, Moniya, for over an hour, announcing their secession from the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The individuals involved in this incident are Noah Atoyebi, Adeleke Gbenga, Abdulganiyu Mustapha, Bashiru Kehinde, Ifagbola Elijah, Oladapo Ajani, and Rasheed Jimoh.

On Tuesday, they were brought before the court and faced charges of conspiracy, treason, armed robbery, with four counts of conspiracy and treason, and two counts of armed robbery.

During the court proceedings, Abiodun Adeleke, the defense counsel for one of the defendants, requested medical attention for his client, Adeleke Gbenga. The prosecution officer, Inspector Folake Ewe, did not object to this request.

Magistrate P. O. Adetuyi, who presided over the matter, did not take the plea of the defendants and ordered their remand at the Abolongo correctional facility in Oyo.

Adetuyi added that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution for advice.

The magistrate, however, adjourned the case until September 13, 2023.
