The Port Harcourt division of the Rivers State High Court on Tuesday renewed and extended the interim court injunction preventing the Nigerian Police and other security forces from apprehending Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to the Rivers State Governor.
The trial Judge, Justice Sika Aprioku, extended the order after Mr. Ehie’s lawyer, Damian Okoro SAN, raised concerns that despite the court’s prior directive, the police had proceeded to issue a warrant for Edison’s arrest.
Justice Aprioku, upon hearing the Senior Advocate, referenced Order 4 Rule 4C of the Administration of Criminal Justice, which empowers him to renew or extend orders upon ex parte applications.
He prolonged the duration of the previous order until the determination of the substantive suit.
Additionally, he addressed an application for an extension of time by respondent counsel Celestine Dickson, granting a three-day extension for response to the processes, while the applicant was given two days to respond.
The judge then scheduled a hearing for the substantive suit on February 15, 2024, and adjourned proceedings accordingly.
