A bench warrant has been issued against popular Kayanmata (aphrodisiac) trader Hauwa Muhammed nicknamed Jaruma by an Upper District Court in the Zuba area of the Federal Capital Territory.

On January 25, Jaruma was charged with defamation of character, fake news publication, and intimidation of business tycoon Ned Nwoko on social media.

Nwoko had accused Jaruma of spreading lies about him and his wife, Regina Daniels, on her Instagram page.

Ismailia Abdullahi, the judge, had ordered that she be held in custody at the Suleja Correctional Centre until the outcome of her bail application.

He did, however, issue a warning to all parties involved in the case to avoid any actions that could be seen as adverse to the case.

Jaruma regained freedom on January 28 after she met the bail conditions.

But at the resumed hearing of the case on Wednesday, Jaruma was absent.

The judge accused her of shunning the court despite being aware of the date of the hearing.

He said if not sanctioned, it would make a mockery of the Administration of Criminal Justice.

The judge, therefore, said, “The defendant knew today was for the case and she ignored the call to come to court.

“By not taking any step, it would make a mockery of the legal system, going by the provision of Section 131 of the Administration of Criminal Justice and after listening to the submission of the prosecuting counsel, I hereby issue a bench warrant against the defendant in this case, one Hauwa Muhammed aka Jaruma and ordered the surety to come to court to explain why she shouldn’t be arraigned.”

The matter was adjourned till March 17, 2022.
