Deposed Lagos traditional ruler bags 15 years jail term
On Tuesday, an Ikeja High Court sentenced Mutiu Ogundare, a deposed Baale of Shangisha in Lagos’ Magodo neighborhood, to 15 years in prison for staging his own kidnap.
Following his conviction on a two-count charge bordering on breach of peace and fake kidnapping, Justice Hakeem Oshodi handed down Ogundare’s sentence.
Opeyemi Mohammed, the brother of the former Bale, received the same prison sentence.
The defendants allegedly committed the offense on July 5, 2017..
According to the prosecution, Ogundare offered to be kidnapped in order to disturb the peace of the community, and both his brother and wife participated in the crime.
Former Lagos Governor Akinwunmi Ambode deposed Ogundare from his position as the Baale of Shangisha in July 2017 for fabricating his kidnap.
