Two individuals, Mr. Theophilus Nwachukwu and Mr. Christopher Emeka Okoli, have been sentenced to death by hanging by the Delta State High Court 2 in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area.

The conviction was based on five charges, including conspiracy, kidnapping, armed robbery, and illegal possession.

Presiding over the case, Hon. Justice R. Harriman stated that the prosecution successfully proved all the charges against the defendants beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case was brought to the court by Mr. and Mrs. Gabriel Adoghe, who alleged that the defendants had forcibly robbed them of Mrs. Adoghe’s Honda car at gunpoint.

The complainants further revealed that the defendants were apprehended by the police at a checkpoint in Aladja, where Mr. Adoghe was found locked inside the car’s trunk.

During the trial, the prosecution called the two victims and three policemen as witnesses whereas the defendants testified in their defence but did not call any witnesses.

After a thorough review of the evidence presented, Justice Harriman concluded her judgment by stating that the prosecution had successfully proven all the charges against the defendants beyond a reasonable doubt.

In response to the judgment, the prosecution counsel, Theophilus E. Omenuwoma Esq., expressed his satisfaction with the outcome of the case. As an Assistant Director in the State Ministry of Justice, he was content with the judgment delivered by the court.

The prosecution counsel noted that “the defendants were charged to court on five-count charges bordering on Count 1, Conspiracy that gave them seven years imprisonment, Count 2, kidnapping, 10 years imprisonment, Count 3/4 armed robbery, to death by hanging while Count 5, illegal possession which earned them 10 years imprisonment, respectively”.

The prosecution counsel however advised that youths in the country should shun crime and engage in meaningful ventures that will give them peaceful money.

He further counselled youths to be patient in life and, as well, work hard to achieve success and never to get involved in any form of criminalities that could cut short their life span.
