Court throws out Emefiele’s suit seeking request to travel abroad for medical checkup

Justice Hamza Muazu of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, has denied former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele’s request for permission to travel to the United Kingdom for a follow-up medical examination.

Justice Muazu ruled, among other things, that Emefiele failed to provide adequate evidence to prove that the medical travel was necessary and unavoidable.

Justice Muazu noted that, while Emefiele stated he had received an invitation to travel to the UK for medical treatment, he neglected to present a copy of the invitation in court.

The judge also determined that Emefiele did not demonstrate that his condition could not be treated in the nation.

Justice Muazu also ruled that Emefiele faces accusations in three additional courts.
