CP Itam takes office as Anambra’s 34th Commissioner of Police

Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam has officially assumed the role of the 34th Commissioner of Police for the Anambra State Police Command.

According to a statement released by the Command on Monday, CP Itam began his duties on the same day.

His appointment by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, follows the mandatory retirement of CP Aderemi Adeoye on May 1, 2024, having completed 35 years of service to the nation.

CP Itam, born on February 12, 1965, in Yakkur Local Government Area of Cross River State, commenced his career with the Nigeria Police Force in 1992 as a cadet Assistant Superintendent at the Nigeria Police Academy Annex in Kaduna.

With a BSc in Sociology and Anthropology from the University of Calabar and a Master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Port Harcourt, CP Itam has held various roles across the nation throughout his career. These include serving as a patrol and guard officer at the Elimgbu Police Division in Rivers State, DPO at the Akamkpa Police Division in Cross River State, Divisional Police Officer at the Export Processing Zones Authority in Calabar, and Directing Staff and Instructor at the Police Detective College on Agbani Road, Enugu.

He also served as the Commanding Officer of the 25 Police Mobile Force Squadron, held positions such as Head of the Counter-Terrorism and General Investigations at the EFCC in Lagos, Coordinator of Courses at the EFCC Academy in Karu, Abuja, Zonal Director/Head of Operations at the EFCC in Port Harcourt, and Director of Internal Affairs at the EFCC Headquarters in Abuja.

As a Deputy Commissioner of Police, he previously served as the coordinator of Police service delivery, SERVICOM. Additionally, he held the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Investigations for Zone 11, which encompasses Oyo and Osun States. He also served as the Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations, overseeing review and internal security governance in Cross River and Akwa Ibom States.

Prior to his appointment as the Commissioner of Police for Anambra State, he served as the Commissioner of Police in charge of the General Investigation Force Criminal Investigation Annex in Kaduna.

Furthermore, CP Obono Itam Psc has undergone specialized training, including the Advanced Detective Course at the Police College in Jos, the Squadron Commanders Course at the Police Mobile Force in Gwoza and Ila Osun State, the Tactical Leadership and Command Course at the Police College in Jos, and the Canadian Police College Senior and Lead Auditor Course. He also completed training at Servicom Nigeria in Kenya.
