The Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal in Cross River State on Tuesday dismissed the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Sandy Onor, challenging the victory of Bassey Otu from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The panel’s verdict stated that the petition was dismissed due to its lack of merit.
The PDP candidate contested the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) declaration of Otu as the victor in the March 18 poll in the South-South state.
According to the results released by INEC, Otu secured 258,619 votes, while Onor reportedly garnered 179,636.
The APC candidate emerged victorious in 15 out of the 18 declared local government areas by the commission in Calabar, the capital of Cross River State.
