Crystal Palace have exercised the option in Jean-Philippe Mateta’s contract, extending his stay at the club until 2027.
The 27-year-old French forward was set to enter the final 18 months of his contract at the start of 2025, with his previous deal expiring in June 2026.
However, sources familiar with the arrangement revealed to BBC Sport that Palace have activated the extension clause, securing his services for an additional two and a half years. The club has yet to make an official announcement.
Mateta and Crystal Palace have been in discussions about a new contract in light of his impressive goalscoring form.
The striker has expressed aspirations of playing European football and representing France at the 2026 World Cup.
Since Oliver Glasner’s appointment as manager, Mateta has emerged as a crucial player for the Eagles. He ended last season with 11 goals in the final 10 matches, contributing to Palace’s 10th-place Premier League finish.
He also excelled at the Olympics, netting five goals for the French national team, which earned a silver medal.
This season, Mateta has continued his strong form, scoring seven goals and providing two assists across 21 appearances in all competitions.
Crystal Palace currently sit 16th in the Premier League standings and are set to face Bournemouth away on Boxing Day, December 26.
