In connection with the ongoing cult clash that has cost the lives of three people in the state’s Gboko Local Government Area, the Benue State Police Command has verified the arrest of 30 suspects.
According to Metro, the conflict between opposing cult groups was igniting turmoil that was endangering the lives and property of local government people.
Issac Mton, the chairman of the LGA, collaborated with security authorities, including police officers assigned to the state’s police command, in an effort to reestablish normalcy in the town.
According to a source, no one was able to determine what sparked the conflict between the opposing cult groups, but there was rumor going around that the combatants were out for vengeance over the death of a member.
“In the process, there has been unrest from Saturday and Sunday, leading to death of another two persons as several other persons were injured,”the source said
The ongoing cult-related conflict in the Gboko community was confirmed by the state police public relations officer, SP Catherine Anene, who also reported the arrest of 30 individuals.
“I cannot confirm if there is casualty or not but the information I gathered now is that 30 suspects were arrested in connection with the crisis in Gboko and the suspects are on their way to Makurdi,” Anene said.
