Customs generates N9.7bn in Kano, Jigawa

The Kano Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) reported that it generated approximately N9.7 billion in revenue between January and February.

The Area Comptroller overseeing Kano and Jigawa States, Dauda Chana, shared this information with journalists in Kano on Tuesday.

The agency attributed this substantial revenue to Duty Paid Value (DPV) on imports and excise.

Chana highlighted that the command has implemented measures to prevent revenue loss through border posts in the region. These measures include reinforcing security and surveillance to deter the smuggling of prohibited goods.

He emphasized that the command would maintain a 100 percent physical examination of goods entering through its borders to prevent the influx of contraband items, including firearms and ammunition.

The comptroller further stated that the area command had issued comprehensive operational directives to its field officers stationed at the border posts on how to combat smuggling effectively.

”We will continue to enhance trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security in line with the directives of the management of the NCS.

”We are also partnering with traditional rulers in border communities to assist our personnel with reliable information on movement of smugglers,”  he said.
