Customs impounds arms, military uniforms at Lagos port

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Tin-Can Island Command, has intercepted a consignment of arms and ammunition purportedly being smuggled into the country by criminal elements.

According to a source within the service, as reported by Channels Television, additional items seized included military camouflage and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.

The recovered arms consisted of automatic single-barrel rifles and pump-action guns.

While specific details of the interception remain unclear, the seizures occurred during an inspection of imported consignments.

However, the source could not verify whether any arrests were made.

This interception follows closely after the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, disclosed to journalists eight months ago that two suspects had been apprehended in connection with the illegal importation of 31 arms of various types at Tin-Can and Multi-Purpose Terminals (PTML) ports in Lagos.
