Kebbi State Area Command of Nigeria Customs Service, on Monday, said it made 28 seizures and arrested suspected smugglers in the state.
Comptroller of the Command, Dr. Ben Oramalugo disclosed this while presenting report on the command’s activities for the month of July 2023, and subsequent handing over of seized hard drugs to National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Kebbi State Command.
According to him, during its operation for the month, 138 packs of tramaking/tramadol (225mg), 81 of Cannabis sativa in tablet-size, and one used Toyota Camry 2007 Model used in conveying the exhibits were seized.
Presenting the report, Oramalugo said the coup d’état in Niger Republic and subsequent border closure with the affected West African country has sharply affected its revenue generation drive, as the Command made N99.2 million in the month of July alone, which is 113 per cent of its monthly revenue target.
He said: “This is as a result of sustained synergy with relevant units and other security agencies at border stations, as well as routine meetings with relevant stakeholders and border communities, encouraging them on smooth flow of customs procedures using conventional media and other social media platforms. We are poised to sustain such a tempo.
“Notable among the seizures are Cannabis sativa and hard drugs worth N22. 13 million, which was handed over to NDLEA.
“The seizure of such drugs is in line with the vow we made during our previous press briefing that we are determined to rid Kebbi State of drug inflow and all items capable of causing harm to Nigerians.”
