Customs reopens Kamba land border in Kebbi

The Comptroller, Nigeria Customs Service, Kebbi State command, Iheanacho Ojike, has reopened Kamba land border in compliance with the directive of President Bola Tinubu on immediate reopening of land border with Niger Republic.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi Customs, Mohammed Tajuddeen Salisu, made this disclosure in a statement issued on Saturday.

Following the reopening of the border and in the presence of the district head of Kamba, Alhaji Mamuda Fana, stakeholders, and other sister agencies, the CAC highlighted Kamba’s significance as a border crucial to revenue generation in Kebbi.

He clarified that the border’s reopening aimed to facilitate legitimate trade beneficial for nation-building, not to permit the importation of prohibited items detrimental to the economy and national security.

Furthermore, Ojike stressed the readiness of the Command’s officers and personnel to facilitate lawful trade within the bounds of the law, ensuring seamless trade across the Kamba Border as long as stakeholders adhere to Customs regulations, make proper declarations, and pay required duties to the Federal Government.

He reiterated that exporting food grains out of the country remains prohibited due to the scarcity of food domestically.

In response, Mallam Fana expressed gratitude for the Federal Government’s efforts, emphasizing the newfound hope for his people engaged in cross-border businesses, including small-scale business owners in Kamba town. He pledged to educate his people on the importance of legitimate trade.

In another development, the CAC paid a courtesy visit to the Emir of Gwandu, Major General Muhammed Bashir Iliyasu (Rtd), seeking his blessings and cooperation as the royal father of the state, along with other sister agencies, to ensure mutual cooperation and collaboration in facilitating steady trade across borders, combating smuggling activities, and providing security to host communities.
