Kebbi State Comptroller of Customs, Mr. Ernest Iheanacho, reported that the joint border patrol team, acting on intelligence, intercepted 6,250 sacks of dynamite explosives being transported along the Yauri-Jega road to Kebbi.
Mr. Ernest Iheanacho, the Comptroller of Customs in Kebbi State, reported that a joint border patrol team, utilizing intelligence-based patrols, intercepted a canter vehicle loaded with 6,250 sacks of dynamite explosives. The vehicle, bearing the registration number Zur 882 ZY, was immediately stopped, and the driver, identified as Abdullahi Aliyu, was arrested. Aliyu was scheduled to deliver the explosives to Alhaji Mustapha Garba Jega, the intended recipient.
Upon intercepting the vehicle, the intelligence units of the joint patrol team inspected and confirmed the items as explosives. Additionally, a Haojue motorcycle was seized in connection with the explosives.
Due to the hazardous nature of the cargo, Iheanacho stated that the command decided to hand over the explosives to the Department of Security Services (DSS), who are better equipped to manage such materials.
At the handover, a deputy director of the DSS in Kebbi Command, Mr. Tony Oduwalu, representing the state director, highlighted the transfer as an example of effective interagency cooperation. He encouraged ongoing collaboration, noting that no single agency can succeed independently. “We need each other to succeed. We thank you so much,” he remarked.
The handover was formalized with the signing of documents before the physical transfer of the explosives. “I hand over these explosives to you on behalf of the Comptroller General of Nigeria Customs, who instructed me to do so,” he said.
