The 2023 Kogi State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Dino Melaye has declared that the party’s presence in the political arena is over.
He alleged that the PDP has been commercialized and privatized.
In a post on his X account on Saturday, the former Senator representing Kogi West accused the acting PDP national chairman, Iliya Damagum, along with the national secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and the national organizing secretary, Umar Bature, of being responsible for the party’s downfall.
He wrote, “End of the road for PDP as Damagum, Bature and Anyanwu irredeemably destroyed the party. We will talk about the commercialisation and privatisation of PDP. PDP is now once upon a time.”
Melaye’s outburst comes after PDP lawmakers in the House of Representatives had raised an allegation against Damagum and Anyanwu.
The lawmaker accused the party leaders of conspiring to undermine the PDP by providing legal support to former members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who had defected.
They alleged that this action was part of a scheme to impeach Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara.
Ikenga Ugochinyere, the spokesperson and a member of the House of Representatives representing Ideato Federal Constituency, outlined a series of events which he claimed were deliberate attempts by Damagum and Anyanwu to weaken the PDP.
In response, Damagum asserted that no one could pressure him into resigning from his position.
He made this statement during the inauguration of the PDP National Reconciliation and Disciplinary Committees in Abuja on Thursday, adding that those calling for his resignation were actually boosting his popularity rather than diminishing it.
