DCP Waheed Ayilara appointed as acting Police Commissioner of Lagos

DCP Waheed Ayilara has been unveiled as the Acting Commissioner of Police in Lagos State.

Ayilara, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police overseeing the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), assumes the role from the former commissioner, AIG Idowu Owohunwa.

According to The Nation, Owohunwa was among the twelve Commissioners of Police approved for promotion to the rank of Assistant Inspectors General of Police (AIG) by the Police Service Commission.

In his address to officers, DCP Waheed directed all Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) in the state to maintain optimal security within their respective areas.

This directive came during a strategic meeting with officers and other department heads in the command, considering the upcoming Yuletide season.

At one point, DCP Ayilara served as the Commander of MOPOL 2 with headquarters in Keffi, Lagos.

Additionally, he held the position of Chief Superintendent of Police overseeing Administration (CSPA) in the Lagos Command. In 2020, he underwent a transfer to the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID).
