At least 72 people have died in violent anti-corruption protests across Nepal this week, the government confirmed on Sunday in an updated toll.

Eaknarayan Aryal, the government’s chief secretary, said in a statement: “Seventy-two people have died, and 191 are receiving treatment.”

The unrest erupted after a ban on social media triggered widespread anger, compounding long-standing frustrations over corruption and economic hardship.
