The election of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has been confirmed by the Court of Appeal in Lagos.
The appellate court denied the challenge filed by Ovie Omo-Agege of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in maintaining the election of Oborevwori, the candidate of the People Democratic Party (PDP).
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared Oborevwori the winner of the March 18, 2023 election after he received 360,234 votes.
His closest challenger, Omo-Agege who is the immediate past deputy president of the Senate scored 240,229 votes.
The Delta State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba, had on September 29, confirmed the election of Oborevwori as the duly elected governor of the state.
In its judgment, the three-member tribunal, led by Justice C.H. Ahuchaogu, dismissed the petition filed by Senator Omo-Agege, for lack of merit.
Not satisfied, Omo-Agege proceeded to the Court of Appeal where Oborevwori’s election was affirmed today.
Recall that the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal on Monday, November 13 reserved judgment in three separate appeals filed by Omo-Agege as well as governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Kenneth Gbagi and the Labour Party candidate, Kennedy Pela, challenging the election the governor.
