Delta motorcyclists allegedly killed by State task force sparks colleagues protest

On Monday, angry motorbike riders took over major roads and markets in Asaba and Okpanam, in Delta State’s Oshimili South and Oshimili North Local Government Areas, in protest of their colleagues’ deaths.

Eyewitness said the group of motorcycle riders took the streets in anger, destroying properties.

Protesters also attacked businesses near the renowned Midwifery Market in Okpanam and the Delta State Post Primary Education Board on Summit Road in Asaba.

According to Delta State Police Public Relations Officer Bright Edafe, two motorbike riders were killed on Sunday during an enforcement operation by the State Task Force.

The police spokesman also stated that several cops had been dispatched to quiet the protest.

“There was a violent protest this morning by Okada riders who had issue last night with the state task force that led to the death of two persons.

“They mobilised in the their numbers this morning destroying properties and beating people, hence our men were deployed to control the situation before it turns to something else,” Edafe stated in a post on his Twitter account.
