The Delta State Police Command has taken two allegedly notorious cult members into custody and seized dangerous ammunition from them.

The Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, revealed this in a signed statement issued to journalists in Warri on Tuesday.

Edafe explained that on 8 November 2025, at approximately 1735hrs, the Command received reliable information that suspected members of the Eiye Confraternity were gathering at Ojeifo Street by Iduwe in Agbor.

He stated, “Without hesitation, the Agbor Divisional Police Officer, CSP Michael Obekpa, led a coordinated deployment of Divisional Patrol Teams and the Civilian Anti-Cult Unit to the scene.”

When officers arrived, they promptly apprehended two suspected cultists identified as Agu Nnamdi of Ohumere Quarters, Agbor, and Promise Banco of No. 36 Iduwe by Ojeifo Street, Agbor-Obi.

According to the PPRO, the suspects attempted to hide a locally made pistol inside a black nylon bag, but alert officers discovered the firearm.

Both individuals remain in detention as investigations proceed, and efforts are underway to locate other suspects who fled during the operation.

In a separate incident, on Sunday around 0930hrs, surveillance officers from ‘B’ Division, Warri—led by CSP Josephine Ekebuike—were on patrol along Arubi Street off Deco Road, Warri, when they spotted a tricycle operator carrying two passengers and dangerously driving against traffic at high speed.

The unusual behaviour prompted the officers to give chase.

The PPRO said the pursuit continued into First Marine Quarters, where the tricycle driver and passengers abandoned the vehicle and escaped through nearby streets.

“The operatives recovered the tricycle and conducted a thorough search, which led to the discovery of two locally fabricated double-barreled guns.”

Additional items found included nine different mobile phones, four power banks, and a screwdriver.

The area has since been sealed off, and intensified stop-and-search operations are ongoing to track down the fleeing individuals.

Responding to the incidents, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, reaffirmed the Command’s firm resolve to dismantle criminal groups, suppress cult-related activities, and curb the spread of illegal firearms across the state.

The CP encouraged residents to “remain security-conscious” and to keep assisting the Police with credible information, assuring the public that all reports will be handled with strict confidentiality.

He reiterated “the Command’s determination to maintain a safe environment where law-abiding citizens can go about their activities without fear.”
