Delta: Retirees protest unpaid pension, block government house

Primary school retirees from 25 local Government areas of the state blocked the Delta State seat of power on Monday due to the nonpayment of pensions.

The retirees carried placards with various inscriptions, including “Wicked Okowa pay us our pensions” and “Okowa you are owing the living and the dead,” among others. They were dressed all in black.

Vehicle entry and exit from the government building were halted.

They also stopped the busy Anwai road, which resulted in significant traffic jams, while many of them sat on the pavement with mats while yelling, “Only Okowa will address us.”

After 35 years of service, one of the retirees, Patrick Lori, claimed that they have been owned since 2015.

The retirees promised to stay at the Government House entrance until Okowa addressed them and, as of the time this report was filled up, they ignored the Governor’s representatives’ invitations to speak to them.
