The House of Representatives has called on President Bola Tinubu to direct the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, to unfreeze all accounts belonging to the National Social Investment Programmes Agency (NSIPA) within 72 hours.
Lawmakers emphasized that unfreezing these accounts would facilitate the smooth resumption of NSIPA’s various programmes.
Additionally, the House urged the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management to eliminate administrative bottlenecks hindering the agency’s operations.
These resolutions were adopted following a motion sponsored by the Deputy Speaker and 20 other lawmakers.
The legislators expressed concern that, despite NSIPA’s critical role in poverty alleviation, youth empowerment, and economic inclusivity, its effectiveness has been hampered by administrative challenges, insufficient funding, and frozen accounts.
NSIPA’s programmes were disrupted due to alleged financial mismanagement by previous administrators, which led to the suspension of operations, freezing of accounts, and investigations by anti-corruption and security agencies.
